This guide is designed to aid the teacher or the student who desires to do a high school level course on U.S. and World History using literature. Each book utilized in this study has been carefully selected for its value as a classic or historical liturature. Special attention has been given to choose literature that is also character building, recognizing that the written word has the ability to shape us and inspire us in ways that few other mediums can.

Excellent way to learn history. There is a TON of reading though, so this is best for strong readers. But I recommend this as a great alternative to the "traditional" history book.

This guide covers some excellent works for the high schooler to consider in depth the period from the Civil War to Vietnam. Problem is the lessons are scattered to cover each book without integrating them chronologically. So you may cover all the events with the books listed and not fully understand the order of events, something a high schooler needs to master. The books covered in the guide are well worth the read, and as the guide is not expensive, I would say use this program in conjunction with a regular history program perhaps as part of a literature course or Honors History credit.
