Product Description

In just thirty minutes a week, your students will be absorbing many new words they'll soon be encountering in books. Each book covers half a years' worth of spelling; Book C is to be used for the first half, and Book CC for the second half of fourth grade. The first ten to twelve words in each lesson are grade-level words that follow a particular pattern, along with sight words frequently used in writing. In addition, each lesson allows space for words from students' reading or writing. Spellwell offers students the opportunity to select words they would like to know how to spell, and is organized to provide daily practice at home, with class time used for a pretest and posttest. Spellwell also helps develop students' writing skills with exercises that ask them to write a paragraph on a topic, including several spelling words. Your students will have a larger vocabulary and will be able to communicate their ideas in writing! 65 pages, softcover. Grade 4. Pages are non-reproducible.

Ahhh, the search for the elusive "good" spelling curriculum. My oldest son is nearing the end of 4th grade, and have we ever run the gamut of spelling curricula. We have used Spellwell at a few different grade levels, and it's...ok. Nothing life-changing, and my son doesn't look forward to doing it any more than he did any of the others. The thing that frustrates me is that sometimes there will be words on the list that are obscure at best. (Why does your average fourth grade child need to know how to spell "plainest"? I had the "plainest" plain M&M's yesterday? Those three girls look plain, but she is definitely "plainest"? Give me a break. Nobody uses that word!!) Also, my son finds some of the assignments confusing...a few days ago he had to do a crossword, and several of the words were not even spelling words, I guess he was supposed to just pull them out of the air! Some of the grade levels have been better than others, he really enjoyed level A. But alas, we are still searching for a spelling curriculum that really, really fits for next year.

My son used this at school in third grade. I loved it. I bought another one to teach to my younger son who attends a different school.
