This book gives you many more suggestions to further your research or understanding. Reviewed by Mindy Desmond (Copperas Cove, TX), August 17, 2010I am a huge history person, I love it, and I have been switching curriculum for years trying to find one I like. With a house full of kids, I need something that doesn't require a ton of teacher research and prep time, is chronological and thorough, yet makes history as exciting as it should be. We used MOH Vol. 1 last year and it was OK, but I wasn't hooked. We have used Story of the World (not detailed enough) and Veritas Press (way too detailed) and I was looking for something in the middle. Vol 1 covered most of the people and events I wanted, but the lessons were still too light on content and I had to do a lot more supplementing than I wanted to. I considered switching curriculum but thought I would at least look at Vol. 2 first. I was pleasantly surprised! The lessons are a bit longer and offer more background when necessary;there are fewer lessons, so if you choose to spend an extra day or two on a lesson you don't end up having to extend your school year; and, as an added bonus the black line maps were improved so areas of water are slightly shaded. That makes a huge difference with early elementary students. Now I am hooked. We will stay with MOH through all the books. Even with the faults of Vol. 1 my kids learned AND RETAINED a ton last year (The time line activity works wonderfully!). I highly recommend MOH 2. Reviewed by Candy Erk Manthey (Rapid City, SD), March 23, 2010Although I haven't started this book with my son yet, we just finished the first book in the series and it was OUTSTANDING in its approach to teaching world history from a Christian perspective. Very thorough and easy to use with kids of varying ages. The time line activity is a must and really works for long-term memory and understanding. Activities are great and allow you to use or not use them. My son can't wait to start this book. He even wants to do it over the summer. What a blessing it has been. Reviewed by Ruth Hernandez (Farmington, NM), February 12, 2010Enjoyed using the first volume, so thought I would just continue on. Really like how it's in a story type format, so it's not boring reading. I am learning right along with my daughter. Reviewed by Rebecca Keeney (Quarryville, PA), June 02, 2008After having used Mystery of History this past year I am excited to use volume two. It makes learning so much fun and does exactly what I was looking for in a chronological world history. I love that we can use the book at various levels at the same time. All of the children can learn and benefit at their learning level. Reviewed by Rosemarie Mullenix (Minnetonka, MN), May 13, 2008This is an excellent resource/teaching tool for early church and middle ages.I am using it with a 9th grader and I am extremely happy to find both a Christian based and historically correct source.EXCELLENT! Reviewed by Rhonda (Philippines), February 29, 2008The chronological layout, the activities, the variety of people/events covered, and the easy style is terrific. The short lessons keep us moving and allows for further study on our own. My sons enjoy reading the lessons for themselves and telling me all about it. However, when she wrote, "Justin Martyr, from whose name the term martyr originated..." (pg 29), I realized that the book is not always entirely accurate. Still, I enjoy using it as the base of our history curriculum. Reviewed by Melissa (Southwest VA), February 13, 2007This book is facinating! We love learning about the people who made up history and we love the world focus. And it is so easy to use, even if you have children of many different ages. We can't wait for MOH 3 to come out! We love Mystery of History! Write a review of The Mystery Of History, Volume 2: The Early Church and the Middle Ages Other Customers Also PurchasedFind Related Products
