This level includes a student book and a parent/teacher book. David Quine, author of Making Math Meaningful, says:"The math instruction of children should proceed on two lines. The scale should be tipped in favor of a concrete understanding of math concepts so that he can think mathematically." There are activities using manipulatives for kinesthetic learners, activities using natural conversations for auditory learners, and activities using pictures for visual learners. The lesson plans are clear and easy to use. The student book is a workbook. The pages are not reproducible.

Takes the teacher a little longer to go over but well worth the reward to your kids.

After restarting a popular, traditional math curriculum with our "math-shy" 10-year-old daughter for the third time without success, we decided that a complete curriculum switch might be in order. We decided to go with Making Math Meaningful. We wanted to give her the best possible chance of success so we started her below grade level, hoping that this curriculum would help her understand the math concepts that were so mysterious to her. This curriculum lived up to its name! It made the math very meaningful. She easily blazed through the book very quickly without a single day of tears (completely miraculous!), and is well on her way to understanding how and why numbers work. The book presented the ideas so clearly and simply that my own understanding of mathematics was greatly enhanced. Our daughter is actually excited about starting the next book!
