Product DescriptionNo more hours of boring, endless repetition - your kids will actually thank you for this interactive math curriculum! Each level has two student workbooks, but the teacher handbook is the main component of the program. All instruction is provided through one-on-one teacher instruction, which is the biggest difference between Horizons and the self-guided Lifepacs.
Another big focus in Horizons is hands-on learning using a variety of manipulatives, which can mostly be found around the house: pencils, pipe cleaners, play or real money, thread, a timer, clock, yardstick, etc. Novice home-educators should not be intimidated by the amount of teacher involvement as it is carefully layed out in the beginning of each year's teacher handbook. 7 of 7 Reviews Showing: Reviewed by Emily Taylor (Wasilla, AK), February 03, 2009Good. Covers much more than I had expected for K. The teacher book seems incomplete because it refers to things that are not included. We do not always use the teacher guide because the student book is so self explanitory, but sometimes it is confusing and the teacher book is necessary. Probably not the best choice for a hyper child, but over all I like it. Reviewed by Kelli Wilder (Versailles, KY), January 29, 2009This product saved our homeschool this year! Math was a struggle last year because we did NOT like the curriculum we were using. Horizons is easy not only for the student to learn and retain new knowlede but is also easy for the teacher to use! It has been a JOY using it this year and my son has been doing very well. Great advice for all homeschool moms--give yourself permission to scratch something that's not working and try something else! I'm looking forward to using Horizons math again next year! Reviewed by Robin (Mt Pleasant, SC), November 20, 2008My daughter is doing very well in this program. The only advice I would have is to save yourself a few dollars and don't buy the teacher's book. We haven't used it at all. The student book gives the directions and is very easy to follow. Reviewed by homeschooling mom (wisconsin), March 28, 2008This is just what I needed as a beginning homeschooling mom. The lessons are well mapped out and the Teacher's Edition gives you ideas for additional math learning activities every day! Reviewed by Kathy (Racine Wisconsin), March 23, 2006My husband and I looked at several homeschooling math curriculums before deciding on Horizons. Horizons Math teaches the fundamental concepts of math in a child/parent friendly format. Concepts are introduced and repeated throughout the series. Horizons has been a HUGE hit in our homeschool! Reviewed by sharon (chicago, il), January 21, 2003This is my first year homeschooling and my son and I are really enjoying Horizons. The lessons are easy to explain and plenty of practice for each concept is provided. I would highly recommend this program. Reviewed by Debbie (Birmingham, Alabama), April 05, 2001Excellent Curriculum! Very vivid colors. Lesson plans are easy to follow and teach. More advanced than regular Lifepacs but not too fast paced for a 5 year old. Write a review of Horizons Math, Grade K, Complete Set Other Customers Also PurchasedFind Related Products
