8 of 15 Reviews Showing:(View All Reviews) Reviewed by Mandy Carlson (Huber Heights, OH), August 30, 2010I bought the whole set for my daughter this year because I liked the idea of combining Bible time with History. The only downside I've found, and I guess it just boils down to personal preference, is even though we started a school a few weeks early, to get to the "Thanksgiving" chapter at Thanksgiving, we have to be pretty intense from now to November! The lessons are not too long, and is a good starting point for adding Library books to the mix, I think. I'm happy overall, I just would have liked a little less in the beginning to get us to Thanksgiving sooner (the book advises that you do each chapter over 2 weeks, Thanksgiving is Chapter 9). BUT, after November, we will be able to do them over 2 weeks... I love the content, though. I also suggest getting the Teacher's manual & the Coloring Book to go along with it. My daughter loved coloring the world map!! Happy Homeschooling!! Reviewed by J.M. (Nebraska), July 25, 2010My children ages 7 and 5 love this book! I do too. It gives a broad sweep of history centered on Christ. The coloring book is perfect for children while mom/teacher reads the lesson. The visual timelines are great to use for review. Reviewed by Kerry (Ohio), January 15, 2010I was so sad when I realized we only had four more chapters left in this book. My boys, ages 6, 4, and almost 3, have all enjoyed this book. So have I and I am learning so much myself! It is worded in a way that is easy for my boys to understand and is entertaining. The follow up questions are great. History day has become one of their top two homeschool days. So anyway, when I realized how close to the end we were, I looked up the author and publisher and ordered "Our Nation Under God". I received it just today and am looking for to reading it and learning right along with my boys. Reviewed by Mandy (Elko, MN), November 01, 2008I have been using this for my son who is in kindergarten for a couple months. He really enjoys it. As you read through the units, you record history events on a big time line which is nice for a visual. I like that this history book is biblical based. Some of it seems to go over my sons head, but he gets most of it. I would say this is a good starter history book for younger children kindergarten-2nd grade. Reviewed by Rachel (Sedro Woolley, WA), October 14, 2008This book is an excellent introduction to some of the key concepts of history from a biblical perspective. I am using it with my 6 year old and she love her "history" book. Reviewed by Kim (Corpus Christi, TX), September 04, 2008From the description, I thought I was getting a world history book, covering bits and pieces of things like ancient Egypt or ancient Greece, medieval times, etc., on up to present day, which also wove in Biblical history. However, this book turns out to be ONLY Biblical history from creation up through Jesus' life on earth, and then it's mostly the history of Christianity (famous Christians, the Reformation, etc.) up to now, with a smattering of US History thrown in. Which would have been fine if that's what I had wanted. But it wasn't, so I was disappointed that it didn't meet my needs. I will use a couple parts of it to supplement a different world history curriculum. I really like the time line discussion in the first chapter, for instance, which has the children draw a time line with creation at the beginning, Jesus at the middle, and Christ's return at the end. I intend to use another curriculum to fill in historical dates on this time line, however. Probably Sonlight Core 1. Reviewed by Sandy Baldwin (Gainesville, FL), August 14, 2008I really like this book and the wording for my five year old. It is a little over her head but she understands most. I love the way it demonstrates that the bible is the beginning of history and uses that as the foundation for all of our experiences. Excellent. Reviewed by Maria Gallagher (Kensington, MD), May 30, 2008I just started using it with my Kindergardener and we have progressed quickly through it. It keeps her interest and I like that there are verses from the Bible throughout. My daughter likes it too. SHe likes the coloring book and writing big words (in her words). We are also studying Geography at the same time. So it works. I wouldn't use it by itself for Social Studies text. But it is an excellent addition.
