Product DescriptionWhat would living on Venus be like? Are there really black holes? How did God create the cosmos? Curious kids want to know, and this 28-week curriculum gives them biblically based, scientifically sound answers. Using Charlotte Mason's methodology, 14 incremental lessons employ narration, notebooking, hands-on projects, and a course website to introduce 6- to 12-year-olds to the wonders of the solar system and universe. 176 pages, hardcover.

Children ages 6 to 12 (and adults, too!) will enjoy this faith-affirming look at God’s creation in the heavens. Kids can relate to Fulbright’s lively text as she shares her personal love of astronomy in 14 fact-filled lessons. The hands-on assignments and projects are fun, thought-provoking, and memorable. (And isn’t that the point of learning—that we remember what we learn?) Children will also have lots of opportunities to tell back in their own words (narrate) what impresses them about each lesson. Filled with color photos and illustrations, this book discusses creation, the solar system, stars, planets, galaxies, and space travel with depth, good humor, and creative—if not stellar—flare! Includes materials list for each lesson, answer key for narrative questions, and a course website for help. 176 pages, hardcover from Apologia.

8 of 47 Reviews Showing:(View All Reviews) Reviewed by homeschool mom (GA), August 27, 2010As with all Apologia products, this one is awesome! My daughter is learning more about astromony than I ever did. Instead of spewing dry facts, this book engages the student's interest through a conversational style of writing and fun activities to apply what she's learned. I recommend this book, and all the Apologia series. Keep them coming! Reviewed by Audra (Costa Mesa, CA), August 18, 2010This is a fantastic book! My homeschooled 6 yr old daughter and 3 yr old son love learning about space and the planets through this book. We're only on chapter 2, but I highly recommend it, and will be using this and all 'Exploring Creation' texts with my 4 children in the future! The text is easy to understand, easy to teach, the projects are fun and it's full of great facts. I've learned alot myself. If you're wondering whether or not you should try it- do! Reviewed by Janet (Atlanta, Georgia), August 05, 2010Our family had so much fun using this Astronomy curriculum last school year. While driving in the car yesterday my 2 boys ages 5 and 6 sparked up a great conversation about the planets. I was AMAZED at how much information they remembered even 4 months after we finished the curriculum! The best part is that they know God created it all! The projects were also easy to complete and with very little prep time. My boys always looked forward to our science time each week. Reviewed by Melissa Windham (Dothan, AL), May 15, 2010I'm really excited about this curriculum. It looks fun but if your state requires grades then this probably would not be the book for you as it offers no tests. I am making my own up. There is also no teachers manual but thats ok. You shouldn't need one anyway. We did not get the journal. We'll make our own. But overall it's a great book. Can't wait to use it. Reviewed by Sandra Colston (Appling, GA), April 21, 2010We are just at the beginning of our journey with this book. So far, it is a great text book. Reviewed by Elizabeth Sullivan (Fort Pierce, FL), February 09, 2010I bought this to use for our science starting in the fall 2010. When my son saw it we had to start it the week we received it. He is really into space right now and he asks every day "can we do astronomy today"-how cool is that!? I've already learned alot from it as well Reviewed by Amy (Blountville, TN), January 01, 2010Wow! What an excellent God-centered and complete science text! I am very impressed with Apologia, and plan to continue using Apologia throughout all homeschool years with all 3 of my girls. The only downfall for me right now is that my daughter is 7, and the Astronomy is a bit over her head. We'll keep it and try again later. Thank you Apologia for a job well done! Reviewed by Deborah Henderson (Jonesville, SC), October 30, 2009This is a great text for children in the elementary years for a science curriculum. I bought this for use with my 5 yr old and it is a little over his head. I think I will save it to use next year, but we have read the first 2 chapters and it is very good, very God-centered. Submitted: July 04, 2004 Tell us a little about yourself. My name is Jeannie Fulbright. I am a veteran homeschooling mom with four children. I am a graduate of the University of Texas. Though I minored in science, my emphasis was in writing. I write for many homeschool publications. I also speak at homeschool conferences and smaller homeschool groups. My husband and I live with our family in Georgia. What was your motivation behind this project? The Lord placed upon my heart a calling to write this series when I couldn't find Charlotte Mason style "living books" that taught science from the Biblical Creationist perspective. I also wanted science to be easier to fit into a busy homeschooling day. One only needs to pick up the book and begin reading; no teacher's manual, no additional resources are needed. One book is all the whole family needs to become amateur astronomers! What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My hope is that Christians will be blessed by the God-glorifying text that continually points them to their Creator. I pray that students will be grounded in a the thoroughly biblical worldview presented throughout this book. My dream is that the solid foundation formed and the strengthening of their faith through this will arm students to be defenders of the faith as they enter the battle zone. Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? This book was written to give homeschool parents a way to teach in-depth creation science to all their children at once. My desire was to write a book that you could cuddle up on the couch with and read to every elementary student in your home at once. The older students will grasp more than the younger students; but they will all learn and enjoy science at their own level. And the information is interesting enough for even high school students to learn (mom and dad too!). The text is written in a conversational style that is engaging to the reader. Concepts such as nuclear fusion are explained in a way that even a five year old could understand. And what a delight to hear your five year old explaining to his grandparents how nuclear fusion is evidence for Creation! The activities are often separated between younger students and older students. Every lesson begins with reading from the text. After that the child works on his notebook, which is essentially the creating of his own astronomy book. Then a creative exercise to help with retention is introduced. Every lesson ends with a relevant hands-on project. Spending your science year studying astronomy will both challenge and bless your family. Your students will come away with a deeper understanding of God's universe and the evidence therein for Creation. Your faith will be strengthened as you see God's perfect design and the beauty He placed in His starry hosts. Dr. Jay Wile, my editor and publisher, has done an excellent job of tightening up all scientific concepts and making the book beautiful.
