4 of 4 Reviews Showing: Reviewed by Stan Brown (Georgetown, On,), September 08, 2009I wish I had read this book many years ago. Mr. Zacharias knowledge of the subject and research is quite evident and assuring for there is no other way known to man, but God.Does the book require deep concentration? Yes and at times some plodding, but, it is worth the journey. Reviewed by Will (Kentucky), June 07, 2009This book is conclusive set of talks delivered at Harvard University by Ravi Zacharias. Some of the ideas presented at Harvard were extrapolated and expanded upon in this book. The book itself is a tremendously helpful resource for any student or scholar looking for a defense on the Christian faith in contrast to other systems of thought. The breath of the range of philosophers range from Fredrick Nietzsche to C.S. Lewis as the polarizing extremes are dissected in vivid detail. The first half of the book deals with the secular worldview as well as its logical implications. The later half of the book deals with the Christian worldview. Here is the part of the book that shines through as Ravi eloquently provides the contradistinction of ideas in Christianity and secularism. This is the area where Ravi gives the reader the answers to origin, destiny, purpose, and morality found within the Christian faith. Reviewed by Roger (San Diego, CA), July 22, 2008This is my favorite books of Ravi's so far. I have a few more books to go over, but this one is unique in that it is based on real world conversations with college aged students as well as secular “scholars”. It is not just a dry academic discussion or a cheerleading feel good book. It actually hits some serious issues that we Christians need to face and own up in ourselves to get a deeper relationship to God. I love this book and recommend it to everyone I know. There are some great analogies as well as straight talk to help direct everyone to the relationship with Jesus that we have to have before we can accurately reflect Him in this world. Two thumbs up! This book is a great addition to any library. You will want to read this several times to make notes on the subjects and the eloquent way he addresses them. As usual Ravi is renowned for getting at the heart of any issue and not chasing carrots that distract from the topic at hand. Reviewed by stan philers (los angeles, ca), April 29, 2008The book is okay, but definitely not for one well versed in philosophy. The author's own background and dealings seem to stem from a very popular approach to philosophy and religion. His section on Hinduism seems to ultimately betray his lack of understanding in general. This book is not recommended for the serious student or scholar who seeks to sharphen his or her understanding and approach to philosophy or religion.
